Educate-Global helps set international standards

All E-G products, including the Learning Management System (LMS), third-party resources, and custom coursework, meet the IMS-SCORM standards for e-learning. This means that resources from around the world are interoperable with Educate-Global's products.

IMS-SCORM standards

Industry standards have been developing in parallel with the industry. The emerging unified standard is known as "IMS-SCORM".

IMS stands for Instructional Management Standards, a global consortium of over 300 universities and companies such as Stanford, MIT, University of Barcelona, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Cisco and Educate-Global. The IMS was founded in 1997 with the objective of developing and establishing world-wide standards for e-learning.

SCORM stands for Shareable Courseware Object Reference Model. SCORM was developed by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) group, which was created by the U.S. government to oversee the standardization of e-learning.

Some of the standardizations of the IMS-SCORM include:

  • Flexible delivery options
  • Limited types of questions and answers
  • Use of XML for interoperability
  • Consistent course packaging

The goal is to offer interoperability between coursework and learning management systems so that courses from Harvard, for example, can be offered to students in Latin America.
